
Tulane Basketball Teams To Host Exhibition Doubleheader Saturday At Fogelman Arena

New Orleans - The Tulane University men's and women's basketball teams will kickoff the 2006-07 preseason with an exhibition doubleheader this Saturday at Fogelman Arena. The Green Wave women's team will host the Houston Jaguars at 2:00 p.m., while the TU men's squad will take on Albany State at 5:00 p.m.
Second-year head coach Dave Dickerson lead the Green Wave into the 2006-07 campaign with eight returning letterwinners, including four starters, and five newcomers.
Senior Chris Moore, joins juniors David Gomez, Donnie Stith, Matt Wheaton and sophomore Ryan Williams as the team's returning starters. Gomez is the Wave's top returning scorer with 11.9 points, per game, while Stith is the top returning rebounder with 5.1 boards per contest.
Moore averaged 9.0 points per outing a year ago and also connected on a team-high 53 three-pointers. Wheaton connected on 45-percent of his field goal attempts, while Williams led TU in assists with 84.
Albany State is under the leadership of first-year interim head coach Chris Cameron, who starred at Tulane from 1994-97. During his career as a Green Wave, his class made four consecutive trips to postseason play, including the 1995 NCAA Tournament and three trips to the NIT in 1994, 1996 and 1997. Tulane reached the NIT Final Four in 1996.
ASU returns all five starters and nine of its top players from a squad that finished 16-13 during the 2005-06 season and was fourth in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.
The Tulane women's team returns all nine letter-winners from last season and welcome back senior guard D'Aundra Henry from a medical red-shirt. Henry, who scored 13.7 points per game and led the team in assists, steals and blocks in 2004-05, is joined by fellow senior guard Jami Montagnino as senior captains for this season.
Montagnino (12.0 PPG, 4.4 RPG) was second in Conference USA in free throw percentage, and finished with the highest single-season percentage in school history. The front court is led by junior Jennifer Sands, who led the team last year in both scoring (12.7 PPG) and rebounding (7.5 RPG).
Last season, the squad went 15-12 overall, 8-8 in Conference USA action, falling to host SMU in three-overtimes in the C-USA tournament quarterfinals.
Both Green Wave teams open the regular season on Friday, November 10 with a doubleheader at Fogelman Arena. The TU women's team will host Stephen F. Austin at 6:00 p.m., while the Tulane men's hoops team opens its season against Butler at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets for the men's regular season games are $50 for floor seats, $16 for adult side court seats, $10 for adult end court seats and $8 for youth end court seats. These prices exclude the LSU game played at New Orleans Arena.
Women's tickets are $15 for floor seats, $7 for adult reserved, $6 for youth reserved, $5 for adult general admission and $4 for youth general admission. Prices are good for all home games except for the LSU home game.
