Please accept my apologies for the utter tardiness of this entry, but what can you expect after my missing class for almost a whole week? Better late than never, though, right? It's Miller Time once again, so buckle up.
Last week we played UTEP on Wednesday and ASU, Florida A&M, and VCU over the weekend. It was a very busy week filled with airplane naps, hotel beds, and, obviously, volleyball.
An interesting tidbit that I learned about the ASU tournament: we were in the presence of greatness. The Pac-10 Ball Shagger of the Year was there, and he definitely deserved the honor. The preciseness with which he shagged balls was amazing. His intensity as he hovered over the ball cart, searching for an open and waiting hand to place a ball into exhibited the passionate pride he took in his job. I only wish that I would have had the foresight to take a picture of him to accompany this piece, because I in all honesty cannot even come close to doing him justice. But I do want to thank him for all of the sweat he put into making sure that no one went without a ball the whole weekend. No one could have done it better.
Well, Friday we had our first home conference match against the reigning Conference USA tournament champs, the UAB Blazers. We were pumped and ready to play after remembering our disappointing loss to them last year in the conference tournament. It was close early, but we really played well in games two and three.
It was great that our fans came out and supported us. We passed out flyers that boast "$1 beer and $1 hot dogs." Obviously we use clever marketing strategies to get our students to come out and watch us. Never underestimate the power of a sale.
