Conference tournament. It's like a dream- no classes, lots of eating, naps, and, most importantly, lots of volleyball. So far we've been here one day, and we don't play until Friday morning. Until then, we had planned activities each member of the team would lead: Jen Linder would be in charge of movie time, Bridget was supposed to be in charge of "Booty Bouncing 101," Liz was responsible for arts and crafts, and Ashley would lead chapel, just to name a few. Instead, though, we decided that time might be better spent watching inspirational sports movies: Rudy, Hoosiers, Remember the Titans, Any Given Sunday, Chariots of Fire, The Natural, and Miracle. I hope that we're actually going to have time to watch them all.
So tonight we attended the Conference USA Banquet in the Memorial Student Center at Marshall. They went to great lengths to decorate- every table had an awesome centerpiece made of a volleyball and balloons color-coordinated to match each school's colors. It was kind of odd to have the same colors as Marshall, but it just adds to the rivalry. Back to the decorations, though. They even went to the trouble of forming a volleyball-shaped ice cube in Amaris' iced tea. Now, if that isn't dedication to the decoration details, then I don't know what is.
The purpose of the whole banquet was not to show off how well they can decorate, though. I know, I was surprised, too. It actually was to hand out awards voted on by the coaches. Our team ended up receiving a total of eight awards: Ashley and I were part of the All-Conference Academic team; Jen and I were part of the All-Conference Second team for the second year in a row; Bridget, Sara, and Ksenija were part of the All-Conference First team; I was the Libero of the Year; and Coach was Co-Coach of the Year. In other words, TUVB rules. Plus, we're going to win the biggest prize as a team anyway.
I wish that more of our fans could be here to cheer us on to victory, but I know you'll be watching us. Coincidentally, we were informed tonight that every game will be both video- and radio-streamed on www.conferenceusa.com or through tulanegreenwave.com. So really, the games are only a click away. See you there!
Roll Wave,
Jenn Miller
