Sophomore libero Jenn Miller was named to the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Monday after her weekend performance at the Loyola Marymount Hilton LAX Invitational. Miller averaged 5.50 digs per game, 55 total, to be named to the All-Tournament Team.
Miller, a native of San Pedro, California, turned in a season-best 27 digs against host Loyola Marymount, 17 more in Tulane's win over Columbia. She also recorded 11 digs against No. 10 Wisconsin and posted a pair of service aces on the weekend in Los Angeles near her hometown.
"Its good to see Jenn recognized for her performances last week, the honor is well deserved. She was very consistent and competed at a very high level - a real highlight for her and this team after facing some very tough opponents on the road," head coach Liz Kritza said. "The first contact is crucial as it is the foundation for everything a team does offensively. As we are working to raise the level of volleyball we can play, Miller leads the way in her area with solid execution of serve receive and defensive skills."
The Green Wave, still receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 Poll, open Conference USA play at UTEP on Wednesday night before continuing on a road trip to Arizona State for the Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport Classic on Friday at Saturday. Tulane will take on VCU, Florida A&M and host ASU at the tournament before returning home to face UAB on Friday, September 21. Gametracker will be available for all five of those matches at TulaneGreenWave.com
