The Tulane Green Wave football team will practice Monday through Thursday at Samford University's Seibert Stadium in preparation for its Sept. 6 season-opening game at Alabama. Tulane is evacuating its New Orleans campus in advance of the possible Gulf Coast landfall of Hurricane Gustav.

Andre Anderson had three touchdowns in Tulane's scrimmage Wednesday. That's three times as many as last year when the Green Wave junior was Matt Forté's backup.
"You've got to have a knack for finding the end zone," Anderson said. "It's something you've got to feel, and you've got to want to get in there and somehow just find a way. It felt pretty good today."

Brian King isn't a flashy wide receiver who is going to do back flips after he scores a touchdown. He's not the type to run his mouth on the field or play with a me-first attitude that has been popularized by some wideouts on the professional level.

Tulane finished just 4-8 last season even though Matt Forte rushed for more than 2,000 yards. This season, the Green Wave will have to try and improve that record without Forte, who is now a Chicago Bear. Junior Andre Anderson steps in at running back, and second-year coach Bob Toledo's halfback-friendly offense will guarantee that he gets plenty of chances to prove himself.

Last season, Tulane volleyball coach Liz Kritza thought her team was good enough to make it into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. The Green Wave had a 28-6 record, including a 14-2 mark in Conference USA, and picked up a top-50 RPI win by defeating LSU on the eve of the NCAA selection, which insiders told Kritza all but secured a berth.
