NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's and women's cross country season rolls on, as the Green Wave compete Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. CT, in the Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola, Florida.
Head Coach Eric Peterson will take the same squads that placed fifth (women) and sixth (men) last week at the LSU Invitational.
"We're coming off a pretty solid performance last week. We had a really good week of practice," Peterson said. "Katherine Crabtree did a great job early on in the race. We're hopeful a break -through performance will come this week. On the men's side, we're counting on the younger guys behind (Brian Lozes) to bunch up and strengthen the team."
The men's squad is led by the sophomore Lozes, who placed 33rd at LSU with a time of 28:10 in the 8K run. Lozes is joined by fellow sophomores Mike Mainguy, Max Miller and Jordon Holtzman, freshmen Jordan Vance, Phil Scruggs and Sam King. Holzman and King made their season debuts at LSU, and will look to improve their times at Pensacola.
Freshman Katherine Crabtree led Tulane last week, and will be called on once again to fill the shoes of junior Rebecca Coady. Coady, who led Tulane in the first two meets of the season, will sit out her second-straight event due to a sore achillies. Crabtree posted a time of 20:14 in the 5K race at LSU to finish 18th.
Junior Caitlin Hornbeck, sophomores Jessica Dallager, Johanna Gretschel, Peggy Keplinger, Marina Leith, and freshmen Maggie Gentry and Emmi Aguillard helped the Wave to a fifth place finish at LSU.
The meet opens at 6:30 a.m. CT at Escambia County Equestrian Center, the site of the 2006 Division II National Championship, with the women's race starting their 5K run. The men will conduct their 8K race at 7 a.m. CT.
Joining Tulane in the field will be Alabama State, Chipola College, Dillard, Loyola, Mobile, Montevallo, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Spring Hill College, Troy, Valdosta State, Xavier (La.) and host West Florida.
