NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's cross country team will take on the field of the Mississippi College Watson Ford Invitational Saturday in Clinton, Miss. The meet gets underway at 8:30 a.m. at Choctaw Trails.
Tulane is coming off a performance last week at the Gulf Coast Stampede in which five of its seven runners set personal bests in the 8K race and six set personal bests.
"I felt the men's team made some real progress last week at the Gulf Coast Stampede," head coach Eric Peterson said. "We had a lot of personal bests and a lot of solid performances in Pensacola, and we did a much better job of running as a team."
Brian Lozes, who has led the team in each of the first four meets this season, turned in a career best 26:18 at the Stampede, topping his previous best by 36 seconds.
Max Miller turned in a time of 28:04 for a new personal best, while freshmen Jordan Vance (28:35), Phil Scruggs (29:44) and Sam King (30:12) each posted personal bests. Sophomore Jordon Holtzman turned in a season-best 28:51.
The Green Wave finished sixth in the Gulf Coast Stampede with 163 points.
"We want to build on that improvement from last week," Peterson continued. "We want to keep improving as a team this week and hopefully beat a few teams that we might not if we didn't run together as a team. I feel we can do that. We had a good week of practice and we're looking forward to seeing that continued growth."
Tulane will take on a field that includes Division I competition Alcorn State, Grambling State, Jackson State, Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi Valley State, Southeastern Louisiana and Southern University.
