Men's Tennis Drops Close One to Troy, 4-3

NEW ORLEANS - Both the Tulane and Troy men's tennis teams braved the cold temperatures at the Goldring Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon and battled to a tight 4-3 decision won by the Trojans.
"We did have some tough elements today, but the thing was both teams had it and we knew that going into it," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "I just pushed my guys to leave the environmental factors out and focus on the task at hand."
The Green Wave (1-1) took the doubles point, but Troy (2-0) won the first four singles matches to secure the victory.
Tulane won the doubles with wins on courts two and three. The duo of Ethan Frenkel and Trevor Getz defeated Troy's Guiherme Sahadi and Aurelien Tave on court three by the score of 8-3, while Adam Bernstein and Rodrigo Rappaccioli defeated Xavier Masson and Branko Weber, 8-5, on court two.
"I have to say that I am so proud of my guys," Booras added. "The team we played today (Troy) is going to be a ranked team this year. They are very strong throughout their line-up one to six. For use to come out 4-3 and just a couple games away from a win gives me encouragement on where we are going with this team. I have to commend all my guys on stepping up to the challenge."
Troy won in straight sets on court one, six and four. Luis Henrique Grangeiro defeated Shaye Wali, 6-3, 6-1 on court one, while Sahadi got past Getz, 6-1, 6-2 on court six and Masson beat Kramer-Golinkoff, 6-4, 6-1 on court four.
The deciding point of the match came on court 5 as Troy's Mario Rolemberg defeated Tulane's Rappaccioli in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
Tulane's Joe Young and Bernstein each won their singles matches. Young, playing on court two defeated Weber in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Bernstein defeated Masson in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
Tulane's pair of Wali and Young fell in their double match on court one, 8-3, to Troy's Grangeiro and Rolemberg.
The Green Wave will next host Florida A&M on Friday at 1 p.m. CST at the Goldring Tennis Center.
