Looking at the Green Wave
Entering the weekend with a five-match losing streak, the Green Wave will look to gain some momentum over the next two weeks. During this two week span, Tulane will play four of its five matches on their home court, with their only road contest coming at Southern Miss. The home-heavy portion of the schedule will kick off this weekend with matches versus UTEP on Friday and UCF on Sunday.
Though the results haven't been in the Olive and Blue's favor, Tulane has had a chance to win nearly every set during their five match slide. In 15 sets lost, TU dropped just four of those by more than five points.
Overall, Izabela Grot and Milica Jovic have been the most consistent offensive threats, while Cori Martone has shown a well-rounded game over the recent weeks. Jovic leads the team with 207.5 points, accumulating 181 kills, 11 assists, 106 digs and 30 blocks, while Grot's 207.0 points rank second on the squad. Grot has 185 kills to lead the team and has chipped in 25 blocks. Martone ranks third overall on the team in kills, digs and points this season. In the last five matches, the freshman has averaged 2.06 kills per-set and 3.12 digs per-set.
Scouting the Miners
The Miners have won two in a row and will be the second straight opponent that Tulane will face after one of their players earned Defensive Player of the Week. Junior Stephanie Figueroa was the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after posting 3.57 digs per-set to help UTEP sweep a pair of matches with Marshall over the weekend.
UTEP has a trio of players that have topped the 100-kill plateau this season, led by Melissa Toth and Jacqueline Cason. Toth is the team leader with 191 kills and has 18 service aces on the year. Cason paces the Miners outside hitters with a .306 hitting percentage, 120 kills and just 38 errors in 268 attempts.
Scouting the Knights
Like UTEP, the Knights enter the weekend on a two-match winning streak, sweeping a pair of matches with East Carolina. UCF won their first seven matches of the season, dropped nine straight and have now won their last two matches.
Kristin Fisher has been the catalyst for the UCF offense this season, ranking third in Conference USA with 275 kills in 18 matches this season. The junior averages 4.51 kills per-set his season to go along with 152 digs and her 22 blocks rank second on the squad. Meredith Murphy leads the squad with 263 digsat the libero position and Rachel Vukson has a team-leading 569 assists.
