Saturday's game marked the fifth meeting between Tulane and Rutgers on the gridiron. With the win, the Green Wave are now 2-3 against the Scarlet Knights.
The victory for Tulane snapped a six-game road losing streak. The last victory for the Green Wave away from New Orleans came at Army, Oct. 3, 2009.
Tulane dressed in all white (jersey and pants) against Rutgers, marking the first time the Green Wave dressed in all white since the 2006 season.
Three Tulane players extended their double-digit starting streaks - senior OT Pete Hendrickson with 28 straight, senior WR Casey Robottom with 22, senior CB Phillip Davis with 16 and sophomore QB Ryan Griffin with 12.
Senior Andrew Nierman started Saturday's game at Rutgers at center, marking the 39th time in as many games that he has played in that he also started. The lone game during his time at Tulane that Nierman did not start was last season at LSU (10/31/10) when he was sidelined due to injury.
Freshman punter Jonathan Ginsberg's 71-yard punt late in the first quarter was his career long. Ginsberg's kick tied him for the 11th longest in school history with Ross Thevenot (SMU Sept. 25, 2008).
Freshman kicker Cairo Santos' 39-yard field goal early in the second quarter was his career long, surpassing a 38-yard field goal kicked against Ole Miss on Sept. 11.
Sophomore RB Payten Jason's two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was his second career rushing touchdown. He also scored a touchdown last week at Houston on nine-yard run.
With six catches for 71 yards, senior wide receiver Casey Robottom increased his string of multiple-catch games to 13. The last time Robottom failed to post multiple catches was against McNeese State on Sept. 26, 2009, when he did not record a touch in the Louisiana Superdome.
Casey Robottom's 71 receiving yards against Rutgers is a season-high surpassing the 58 yards he tallied last week at Houston.
With Cairo Santos five points against Rutgers, the freshman kicker is the only Green Wave player to have scored in every game this season. Santos scored eight points against Southeastern, seven against Ole Miss and six at Houston.
TE Cody Sparks' six receptions against Rutgers is a career-high. The senior's previous high was three receptions of four different occations, the last coming at Rice on Nov. 14, 2009.
On Tulane's trick play in the third quarter that resulted in a touchdown thrown by D.J. Banks to Joe Kemp, the pass by Banks was his first collegiate touchdown pass and the reception by Kemp was his first career receiving score. The play started with Kemp lined up at QB. He threw a backwards pass to Banks, who then hit Kemp on the left side flat and Kemp scampered into the endzone for a 24-yard TD.
Jordan Sullen returned to the offensive side of the ball against Rutgers, carrying the ball eight yards for a first down late in the fourth quarter. Sullen was listed a WR last year as a freshman and recorded two carries for 17 yards. This season Sullen moved to cornerback.
Sophomore RB Payten Jason posted career highs in rushing attempts with 15 against Rutgers. His previous high was six laast week at Houston.
Sophomore LB Trent Mackey posted 10 tackles (6 solo, 4 assists) on Saturday, marking the fourth consecutive game he has posted double-digit tackles in as many games in 2010. For the year, Mackey leads the team with 48 tackles (23 solo, 25 assists).
Alex Wacha recorded his first career interception with inside a minute to play in the game to seal the victory. It was the senior's first career interception.
Tulane captains for Saturday's ballgame were permanent team captains senior OL Andrew Nierman, senior CB Phillip Davis and senior SS Alex Wacha, along with game captain and senior DE Josh Smith.
