BATON ROUGE - One day after setting the school record for three-pointers made, the Tulane men's basketball team will look to continue its shooting success when they travel to Southern University on Thursday for a 2 p.m. CST tip in the Mini-Dome.
The Green Wave (7-3) defeated Auburn-Montgomery, 91-70, on Tuesday night in Fogelman Arena and knocked down a school record 15 three-pointers in the victory.
Southern (1-9) fell to home to Xavier of New Orleans, 72-58, on Monday for the Jaguars' seventh straight loss. SU's lone win came over AUM on Nov. 17, 74-72, in overtime in Baton Rouge.
"We need to go into the break showing improvement so this game is key for us," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "Everybody's got to be ready so this game will be one where we still try to find ourselves."
Sophomore forward Kendall Timmons leads Tulane into the game with 15.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per outing. Senior Kris Richard is posting 13.5 points and 5.8 rebounds and sophomore Jordan Callahan is adding 11.7 points and 4.3 assists per contest.
As a team, the Green Wave is now averaging 72.6 points per game and allowing 59.2. Tulane's 50.0 percent shooting night against AUM increased the season shooting percentage to 44.7.
SU is led by Julius Ingram's 12.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. As a team, the Jaguars are scoring only 57.6 points per game and allowing opponents to post 84.4 per contest.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools and the first in Baton Rouge. Tulane won the previous three meetings, including the last time, a 78-72, win on Nov. 25, 2003 in Fogelman Arena.
Tulane will take a six day break for the holidays before returning home to host Lamar on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. CST in Fogelman Arena.
