AUBURN, Ala. - Tulane's men's tennis team returns to the courts Thursday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center for the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships hosted Auburn University.
All 10 members of the Green Wave team will begin the tournament Thursday in the opening round of both singles and doubles. The main draw singles and doubles bracket will be released Wednesday night.
"This ITA regional is basically the culmination of our fall season," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "The guys are playing well right now after a couple good weeks of practice. We are going into the tournament with the right attitude and a lot of confidence. We are looking forward to competing hard and continuing to make a name for ourselves in rebuilding the program."
Tulane will compete with players from Alabama, Auburn, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Nicholls State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy and UAB in the regional that represents schools from the states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.
The second round of the tournament will be played Friday with the third and fourth rounds on Saturday. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played Sunday, while the finals are scheduled for Monday morning.
Sophomore Takuma Ohashi leads Tulane this fall with a 4-2 singles record, while both Idan Mark, the 50th ranked player in the nation by the ITA, and freshman Iain Sneddon have both posted 4-3 records. Mark has teamed with fellow junior Joe Young to earn a 4-1 doubles record this fall.
