Doubles Team Advances at ITA Southern Regional

AUBURN, Ala. - The duo of Shaye Wali and Rodrigo Rappaccioli, of the Tulane men's tennis team, advanced into the third round of doubles in the main draw of the 2011 USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships with their victory on Friday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center hosted by Auburn University.
The pair advanced with an 8-2 victory over UL-Lafayette's Damian Farinola and Carlin Murray and will face Auburn's Dennis Lengsfeld and Dan Cochrane, the nation's 30th ranked doubles team, in the fourth round Saturday morning.
Tulane's Idan Mark, the 50th ranked player in the nation, reached the fourth round of the main draw singles before falling to LSU's Olivier Borsos, 6-4, 6-0. Mark reached the fourth round with a, 6-3, 6-4, victory over Alabama's Daniil Proskura in the third round Friday morning. By reaching the fourth round, Mark, a junior for the Green Wave, was one of the top 16 players in the Southern Regional.
Fellow junior Joe Young remained alive in the consolation singles bracket after edging Samford's Elliott Barnwell, 6-3, 7-6, in the second round on Friday. Young will face Zac Dunkle of Samford, Saturday for the right to advance to the quarterfinals.
