TULSA, Okla. - Idan Mark, a junior on the Tulane men's tennis team, won his opening round match at the 2011 ITA Men's All-American Championships in qualifying singles on Monday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
Mark defeated Vasko Mladenov of St. John's University, 7-6, 6-3, at advance to the second round to be played Tuesday morning.
"It was a good job by Idan today getting the ball rolling," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "The first round of a tournament like this always a tough one. It was nice to be able to work his way into the tournament, but will have another tough one tomorrow. He'll need to recover tonight and come out sharp tomorrow and be ready to complete."
Doubles play begins Tuesday as well. Mark will team with Joe Young in the qualifying round in the afternoon.
