NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team completed play at the 2011 Rice Invitational on Saturday after Sunday's final rounds were canceled due to inclement weather in the Houston area.
The Green Wave posted three doubles wins and a singles victory on Saturday. The doubles duo of senior Lindsay Dvorak and junior Caroline Thornton blanked LSU's Ebie Wilson and Rebecca Bodine, 8-0, and then downed Penn State's combination of Chelsea Utting and Nine Sertic, 8-6, in the consolation semifinals.
Tulane's other doubles tandem of freshman Emily Dvorak and junior Caroline Magnusson posted an 8-4 win over Penn State's Sarah Henderson and Maria Prishlyak in the consolation quarterfinals, but fell to DePaul's duo of Gia McKnight and Patricia Fargas, 8-1.
In singles action, Thornton dispatched Sertic, 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the consolation semifinals of the Blue Singles and would have played in the finals if it not were for the inclement weather.
In the Gray Singles, Lindsay Dvorak fell to DePaul's Rebeca Mitrea, 7-6 (3), 6-1, while Emily Dvorak lost to Hayley Everett, 6-1, 6-1.
Tulane returns to action at the ITA Regional Qualifying event, Oct. 21-24, in Birmingham, Ala.
