NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane volleyball team dropped a three-set decision on Saturday against Tulsa at Fogelman Arena. The Green Wave hit just .081 and fell by scores of 10-25, 24-26, 17-25 to the league leading Golden Hurricane.
The opening set started off well for Tulane, but that quickly changed when a 3-1 lead turned into a 9-3 deficit. The Green Wave fought back to close that gap to 11-8, but Carly Boatwright served eight straight points, Jordan Clampitt had a five point service rotation and Tyler Henderson finished off the set with her fifth kill of the frame.
The second set took more than 25 points to win, with Tulane rallying late to force the extra points. Tulsa led more of the match, with Tulane holding their only lead at 9-8, and led by an many as five, twice. With the Golden Hurricane leading 23-18, Tulane rallied with six of the next seven points, three of which came from Anna Wruck, to tie things at 24-24. Tulsa would finish off the set with a kill from Henderson and a block to win the set 26-24.
Tulane's offense finally found its footing in the third set and led by three points at 9-6, early on. Tulsa's league leading offense wasn't to be denied, however, reeling off six straight points to take control of the third and final stanza. The Golden Hurricane would follow a Cori Martone kill with three separate streaks of three points - only allowing one Tulane points between each - and grabbed a commanding 21-12 margin. Tulsa sided out for the remainder of the set and claimed the match with a 25-17 decision.
Nikki Osuna led all players with 14 digs, Mel Mandelbaum paced the match in assists with 25, and Wruck added a match-best six blocks. Martone led the Green Wave offense with 12 kills, followed by Azarri Badawi's seven and Wruck's five successful attacks. Mandelbaum added 13 digs to post her tenth double-double of the season.
