TULSA, Okla. - After struggling on the road this spring, the Tulane men's tennis team earned a hard fought victory away from home on Sunday with a 4-2 win over Oral Roberts in a non-conference dual match.
Joe Young, playing No. 1 singles for the first time this spring, secured the first road victory of the season for Tulane (7-9) with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, win over Oral Roberts' Igor Sobolta.
Coby Kramer-Golinkoff, playing in his first dual match of the spring, got the Green wave start off on the right foot with a 6-1, 6-1, victory on court six over ORU's Matthew Prevost.
The Golden Eagles then tied the match with a win on court two, but Adam Bernstein and Takuma Ohashi earned wins on courts three and five respectively to give Tulane points two and three.
"I'm very pleased with the outcome today," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "These guys battled hard against a very solid Oral Roberts team. We came out quick and then were able to weather the storm and come away with the victory."
Doubles was not played due to travel arrangements and weather.
Tulane will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., this coming weekend for the Conference USA Shootout. The Green Wave will face East Carolina at 11 a.m. CDT Friday, UAB at 10 a.m. CDT Saturday and play host Southern Miss at 2 p.m. Sunday.
