NEW ORLEANS -- Tulane University will honor the late Robert "Bobby" Boudreau this Friday when the school will dedicate the Victory Bell in its new location and announce the Spirit Award in his honor in a ceremony at 5:30 p.m. CDT at McAlister Place on campus.
Friends of Boudreau, who passed away on Feb. 7, 2010, established the award to perpetuate his spirit. Boudreau was known, unofficially, as Tulane's No. 1 Cheerleader.
Tulane President Scott Cowen will officiate at the proceedings, establishing the Bobby Boudreau Spirit Award, and dedicating the Victory Bell in its new location at McAlister Place to "celebrate the SPIRIT of Bobby Boudreau, whose ROLL WAVE will forever sound across this campus."
Boudreau's wife, Margaret, along with Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson will ring the Victory Bell at the conclusion of the ceremony. Immediately thereafter, the cheerleaders and marching band will lead the Helluva Hullabaloo cheer, followed by the marching band playing the fight song. The band will then lead a parade to Turchin Stadium where the Green Wave hosts Houston on the diamond at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
A group of ladies will lead a Second Line with umbrellas, and other guests who join in the procession will be given "official" Bobby Boudreau Second Line Hankies, band doubloons and Tulane beads.
The first 500 fans at the baseball game will receive Bobby Boudreau Second Line Commemorative Hankies.
During the seventh inning stretch, fans will be encouraged to wave their Bobby Hankies and join Charlotte Traviesco in a lively version of "Take me out to the Ball Game" before a special HELLUVA HULLABALOO cheer to honor Boudreau.
