HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Tulane's men's tennis team continues is six-match road swing this weekend with the 2011 Conference USA Shootout hosted by Southern Miss at the USM Tennis Courts.
The Green Wave (7-9, 0-5 C-USA) will face East Carolina to open the three-day round-robin tournament Friday at 10 a.m. CDT. Tulane will then play UAB Saturday at 10 a.m. and conclude the weekend with a match against host USM Sunday at 2 p.m. CDT.
"This is basically a make or break weekend for us," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Our team goals are all based around how we do this weekend. Our conference tournament seeding and individual results for the NCAA Tournament are all based on this weekend. Knowing all that this is a pretty big weekend for us."
Tulane enters the weekend having won two of its last three matches, including a 4-2 road victory at Oral Roberts on Sunday.
ECU (10-6, 0-1 UC-USA) has lost three straight matches entering the shootout, including a 6-1 home loss to Binghamton on Saturday.
UAB enters the weekend with a 4-8 overall record and 1-0 in the conference, while host USM is 3-14 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
"The guys have geared up for this knowing that we are going to play three really tough matches," Booras added. "These are three teams that we lost to last year and we understand the level of competition. We've improved, but we know what we are going to be going up against. Playing three matches back-to-back-to-back is always a challenge. It is a fun weekend and a great experience and our goal is to try and go 3-0."
Idan Mark and Joe Young lead the Green Wave into the second to last week of the regular season. Mark, ranked 105th in the nation by the ITA, is 9-6 in singles this season, while Young has posted a 9-7 mark. The duo has also paired up for a 4-1 doubles record.
