NEW ORLEANS - Winners of four of the last five matches, the Tulane men's tennis teams takes to the courts for one final time during the regular season when they host cross-town foe Xavier Wednesday at 3 p.m. CDT at the Goldring Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (10-10) improved to .500 with a 4-3 victory at Louisiana-Lafayette this past Saturday for the second straight win and fourth in the last five. Tulane's lone loss in the past five matches came against UAB on April 2 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
"We've really have gained a bunch of momentum these last four weeks and we are shooting toward reaching our goals for the season," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "This match against Xavier is going to be a tough one. They have played a lot of teams that we've played extremely tough so we know we are going to have our work cut out for us."
Idan Mark and Joe Young have each posted 11 singles victories for Tulane this spring, while Radu Ionescu, the lone senior of the squad, is 7-3 in singles, including the match clinching win on Saturday against ULL in his first match back after injury.
"The guys feel good about the direction we are headed at the end of the regular season heading into the conference tournament but we don't want to jump to far ahead and start thinking about the tournament," Booras added. "We need to just get the job done against Xavier. They are hungry for a win and our guys need to be hungry for a win as well."
Tulane will travels to the C-USA Tournament next week in Tulsa, Okla. The tournament begins April 21 and concludes on the 24th.
