NEW ORLEANS - It will be the first of two trips to the Bernie Moore Track Stadium this season for the Tulane track and field program, with the LSU Relays representing the second outdoor meet of the season for the Olive and Blue. Weather shortened the squad's competition schedule last weekend at the Aztec Invitational, but a handful of student-athletes posted career-bests and one broke a school record.
Joanna Lapucha will take to the runway in the pole vault this weekend, just seven days after breaking the school record in the event at the SDSU Sports Deck. Lapucha now owns the indoor and outdoor records in the event, clearing 3.57-meters on her second attempts last weekend in San Diego. The sophomore will be joined by freshman Jessica Knierim in the event at LSU.
The distance group will get their work in this weekend after not seeing much action during the indoor season. In the 1,500 meter, women's runners Emmi Aguillard, Jessica Dallager and Johanna Gretschel will compete, while Cody Gibbons and Brian Lozes will take to the lanes in the men's event. The trio of Michael Mainguy, Mark Manion and Geoffery Zelek will participate in the 5,000 meter for the men, as well as Cassie Campbell and Katherine Crabtree in the women's event.
Garrett Myer will compete in three events over the weekend after taking part in his first decathlon of the season in San Diego. The senior will take part in the 100 meter, long jump and javelin. Myer set personal bests in a pair of events last week and was two meters shy of a PR in the javelin last week.
In the triple jump, Estefany Cruz jumped 12.30-meters last weekend in her first career outdoor competition. That mark places her into sixth place on the Tulane career outdoor charts. Ana Ruzevic opened her senior campaign with a solid showing in the javelin at the Aztec Invitational, finishing second overall with a throw of 48.66-meters. The mark is the fifth best throw of her career and just under three-meters short of her school-record toss of 51.37-meters from 2011.
Both the men's and women's team will compete in the 4x400-meter, sprint medley and distance medley relays, along with the 4x800-meter race for the women.
