Tulane Green Wave at Jaguar Invitational

NEW ORLEANS - As the outdoor track and field season nears the midway point of their pre-championship schedule, the Tulane track and field program will travel to the Jaguar Invitational to compete on Saturday, March 31 at the Jaguar Track. Head coach Eric Peterson will take 25 female and 16 male student-athletes to Mobile, Ala. for the one-day competition.
Though most participants will compete in only one event over the weekend, there are a handful of student-athletes that will be busy on Saturday.
Kasey Rodgers will continue her senior outdoor campaign with a pair of sprinting events. The Elk Grove, Calif. native will look to improve upon her time of 11.71 from the season opener in San Diego and will run the 200 meter distance for the first time this season.
Senior Garrett Myer will continue his preparations for the decathlon at the Jaguar Invitational, competing in seven different events on Saturday. Myer will run the 110-meter hurdles, 200 meter and 400 meter races, as well as competing in the discus, high jump, javelin and shot put.
The 200 and 400 meter events will have a pair of common opponents, as Jerica Banks and Hilary Woods will each compete in the races. Woods posted a 24.71 time over 200-meters and covered the 400-meter distance at 56.60 on the opening weekend of the outdoor season. It will be the first competition of the outdoor campaign for Banks, who enters the weekend looking to improve on her personal best of 25.21 over 200 meters from last season.
Justyn Shackleford will make his collegiate track debut over the weekend in the 400-meter hurdles. Shackleford is a receiver on the Tulane football team and caught 31 passes for 404 yards and one touchdown. The Suwanee, Ga. native averaged 31.1 receiving yards per game - which ranked second on the team - and had one rushing attempt for 13 yards.
Estefany Cruz claimed the collegiate title in the triple jump last weekend, but will step onto the track to compete in the 200 meter and take to the long jump runway this weekend. Cruz has not competed in a track event this season, but did jump 5.47-meters in the long jump during the indoor season at the Birmingham Icebreaker.
Last weekend, Joanna Lapucha set the school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.67-meters. It was the third straight competition that the sophomore has set the Tulane school record in the event, setting the indoor mark on Feb. 25 and the outdoor mark on March 16, before breaking her own record last weekend at the LSU Relays.
