Oct 17, 2014 | Cross Country
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - In what was ultimately their final competition before the championship portion of the season in two weekends, the Tulane cross country program took to Harry Pritchett Running Course for the Alabama Crimson Classic on Friday evening, with freshman Lauren Bartels leading the pack of Green Wave women, and redshirt junior Mark Manion pacing the men's squad.
The competition was strong in Tuscaloosa, with 30-plus teams competing in the women's 5K and the men's 8K that followed. On the day, the Green Wave women's squad finished in the middle of the pack by placing 18th with a total of 473 points. The men placed 22nd with 564 points.
With the freshmen Moses Aloiloi and Emma Newton sitting out from the competition in order to train through the weekend for the upcoming championship meets, Bartels and Manion were tasked with leading their respective teams into the weekend. Bartels posted a time of 18:22.82 to place 47th on the day, while Manion's time of 26:39.59 was good for 80th place on the evening.
