AUBURN, Ala. - Tulane men's tennis doubles team of junior Dominik Koepfer and freshman Constantin Schmitz reached the quarterfinal round with a pair of wins before bowing out on Saturday afternoon, while sophomore Chi-Shan Jao remains alive in the consolation singles bracket at 2014 ITA Southern Regional held at Auburn University's Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Sophomore Chi-Shan Jao won both of his consolation singles matches on Saturday after earning a win on Friday afternoon and will play in the quarterfinal round on Sunday morning.
The Taipei City native defeated South Alabama's Manuel Belda, 7-6, 6-4, in the round of 32 and then upended UAB's Christian Coetzee, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 16. Jao will face LSU's Simon Freund in the quarterfinal round on Sunday.
"Jao has rebounded nicely after his main draw loss to come up with three more wins," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "If he continues with that momentum into Sunday he can get a few more wins."
The Green Wave duo from Germany defeated the doubles team of Damian Farinola and Edgar Lopez from Louisiana-Lafayette, 8-4, before being edged by the Ole Miss pair of William Kallberg and Gustav Hansson, 8-5, in the quarterfinal round.
"Dominik and Constantin had a nice couple of wins over some solid teams," Booras said. "It was nice to see them gel so quickly."
