Tulsa, Oklahoma- The Tulane women's golf team combined for a 23-over 303 total in windy conditions today during the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships and sits in a tie for 13th place at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Tulane will once again join golfers from Arizona and Texas A&M for Wednesday's second round, and the groups will start from the first tee, beginning at 11:50 a.m. (CST).

Today, the entire field was forced to alter their game plans in the face of a 20 mile per hour winds with gusts up to 30 mph. The par-70, 6,194-yard course saw its share of high scores on the day. However, the conditions did not detour the Tulane sophomore duo of Emily Penttila and Silvia Garces.
Penttila shot a team-low 2-over 70 and is tied for 13th place, while Garces fired a 3-over 73 and is currently sitting in a tie for 22nd place.
Sophomore Madison Opfer carded an 8-over 78 and is tied for 79th place, while junior Gemma Dryburgh found the back nine rough going with an 10-over 80 and is tied for 102nd while freshman Belen Goicoechea went to the clubhouse with an 11-over 81 on the day and tied for 111th place.
"The wind was blowing when we teed off at 7:30 a.m. and was strong the entire day. I thought we might have a little bit of an advantage early on but that was not the case. We did, however, have two very strong rounds from Emily and Silvia. They both battled throughout the round and made good decisions and really limited their mistakes to bogeys, which was important in these types of conditions. The other three did not do as well, but we have talked over today's round and I think we are all looking forward to Wednesday's second round."
"It's the national championship and we have four rounds to determine the national champion so we have three more days to move up. We are actually not in a bad position. We finished tied for fourth among the morning groups. We had some high scores we had to count today, but I am confident we can play better," Don added.
Oklahoma took the top spot in the team standings with a three-stroke lead over second place UCLA, while Duke, USC and Arizona State are each tied for third place to round out the top five squads.
Individually, USC's Doris Chen, Denver's Tonje Daffinrud and Stanford's Lauren Kim are tied for first place on the leaderboard, each at 3-under.
