Birol/Stracar Highlight Day Two Action at ND Inv.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Tulane women's tennis resumed action this morning in South Bend, Indiana, at the Notre Dame Invitational. Just like Friday, day two followed the same format, featuring two rounds of doubles play and one round of singles, at the Courtney Tennis Center. Ipek Birol continued her great run in the round robin tournament, sweeping both her doubles matches with teammate Nicky Stracar, while junior Jacqui Katz won her lone singles and split doubles.
In all, Tulane won two of its singles matches and three doubles. The Green Wave duo of Birol/Stracar started with an 8-6 win over Purdue's Djokovic/Suarez. Then, in the second round, Birol/Stracar bested Fennelly/Closs of Notre Dame, 8-5. The Tulane pairing is now 3-1 on the weekend.
Rounding out the doubles victories was the team of Katz and Naz Karagoz, who defeated Notre Dame's Roberts/Mountford, 8-4.
After four hard fought three-set singles wins yesterday, Tulane earned its first straight-set victories of the tournament on Saturday. Katz added to her day with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Molly O'Koniewski of Notre Dame. Emily Dvorak then followed suit with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Akron's Sophie Geier, moving to 2-0 in singles play.
The third and final day will feature each player competing in just one singles matches, with play commencing at 9 a.m. CT.
