Men's Tennis Wraps Day One in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA - The Tulane men's tennis team wrapped day one competition on Thursday of the ITA Southern Regionals. The Green Wave went 1-1 in the first round of doubles and advanced six of its seven competitors through two rounds of singles play.
"Today was a solid start to the tournament," head coach Mark Booras said. "We had everybody compete well against some very tough competition. It was nice to see our older guys and our new guys step up their games to come up with some big wins."
Tyler Schick and Alex Van Cott captured the Wave's first win of the day, securing an 8-5 doubles win over Auburn's Van Dooren/Saleh. Up next, the duo will look to take down Ole Miss' Babic/Fallert at 9 a.m. CT. Meanwhile the pair of Sebastian Rey and Constantin Schmitz, a No. 5-8 seed in the tournament, will take to the doubles courts for the first time after a first round bye, facing off against Ole Miss' Gowda/Hamilton.
In singles, the Wave compiled a 10-2 record through the first two rounds, in which six of the wins came via straight-sets.
Alex Van Cott will look to take down No. 9-16 seed Simon Freund of LSU on Friday morning at 10 a.m. CT.
Rey displayed one of the strongest singles outings on the day, winning 6-2, 6-0, in the first round, then 6-0, 6-0, in round two. Rey will look to keep the ball rolling when he clashes with No. 9-16 seed Grayson Goldin of Alabama at 10 a.m.
After recording a clutch 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, victory in the second round against Troy's Andy Lau, Ian Van Cott is set to face-off against No. 6 seed Max Hinnisdaels of Auburn on Friday at 10 a.m. CT.
Schick also performed admirably on Thursday, knocking off the No. 3 seed Tam Trinh of LSU, 6-2, 6-1. Up next for the freshman is Southern Miss' Rakshit Rishi.
Fresh off of qualifying for the main draw the All-American Championships, No. 9-16 seed Constantin Schmitz kept up his hot start by defeating LSU's Gabor Csonka, 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-1. Schmitz will take on Auburn's Dante Saleh next at 11:30 a.m.
