Volleyball Travels West to Take on SMU, Tulsa

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's volleyball squad will hit the road for the weekend, as they will look to right the ship out west against American Athletic Conference foes SMU on Friday, Nov. 13, and Tulsa on Sunday, Nov. 15.
Friday's contest is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. CT, while Sunday's match will start at 1:00 p.m. CT. Live results will be available for both matches. Tulane enters the weekend with an overall record of 9-17, including a mark of 3-11 in league play. The Green Wave are looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss to UConn this past Sunday, where the squad fell, 3-2, after dropping the last two sets of the match. Prior to that, Tulane had picked up a 3-1 victory over Temple.
Junior Tea Juric paces the squad with 350 kills, and the Croatian ranks sixth in The American in kills per set at 3.43. Sophomore Sarah Ray is second on the team with 298 kills while freshman Aubrey Folk (172), junior Sarah Strasner (148) and freshman Dayna Kern (109) are all above the triple-digit mark in kills.
Strasner ranks sixth in the league in hitting percentage at .315, while rookie Elizabeth Hurring (7.10) and junior Ally Frank (6.52) rank eighth and ninth, respectively, in assists per game. Strasner and Kern sit third and fifth, respectively, in blocks per set at 1.10 and 1.05.
SMU currently sits in first place in The American with a 13-1 league record. The Mustangs are 23-3 overall. Abbey Bybel paces the squad in kills at 275, while Janelle Giordano (234), Cailin Bula (238) and Katie Hegarty (203) all have 200-plus on the year.
Avery Acker leads the squad in assists per set (12.29), while Giordano owns the team-high in blocks (155). Morgan Heise is the team's top digger at 5.97 per set.
Tulsa enters the weekend 12-14 overall and 7-7 in league play. Erica Bohannon leads The American in kills at 427, while Rebecca Reeve (299) and Ashley Hooper (296) are on the cusp of 300. Sophie Bethke leads the team in assists per set at 10.44, Brooke Berryhill paces the squad in digs per set at 4.93 and Hooper is the top blocker at 0.90 blocks per set.
Tulane lost 3-0 to SMU back on Sept. 27 in New Orleans, two days after defeating the Golden Hurricane in five sets.
Tulane will remain on the road for one more match as they will square off against Houston on Nov. 18 before returning home for the final home match of the season on Nov. 22 against East Carolina.
