NEW ORLEANS – Tulane's indoor volleyball program secured the talents of Kaylie McHugh (St. Thomas Aquinas HS – Fort Lauderdale, Florida) for the 2016 season, as the libero/defensive specialist signed an NLI late Wednesday.
McHugh is the lone player to sign an NLI for the Green Wave indoor volleyball team during the early signing period. However, McHugh will also suit up for the beach volleyball squad, as she has ample experience in that realm of the game, as well.
"I think Kaylie is an exceptional player, both indoor and on the beach side," stated Tulane volleyball director Sinisa Momic. "She's a natural athlete who has a great volleyball IQ. She's very talented, and we feel that she is going to be able to help us at the libero position."
The 5-foot-4 high school senior played varsity volleyball for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for three years, and helped her team to the Class 7A Florida State Championship just last week. The team posted a 30-2 record overall during her senior campaign
Individually, McHugh played in 78 sets as a senior, recording 310 digs, 60 assists and 51 service aces.
During her junior season, St. Thomas Aquinas also captured the 7A Florida State Championship, and McHugh had a strong year. On the season, McHugh posted 40 service aces, 31 assists and 332 digs in 86 total sets, and the team finished with a 31-4 overall record.
As a sophomore, St. Thomas Aquinas fell in the regional finals, but McHugh had a solid campaign, posting 203 digs, 44 service aces and 35 assists.
For her career, McHugh notched 845 digs, 135 service aces and 126 assists in 251 total sets.
