NEW ORLEANS - Tulane University Athletics Director Rick Dickson announced that Coach Curtis Johnson has been relieved of his duties as Green Wave head football coach, effective immediately.
The decision was made Saturday, a day after Tulane concluded the 2015 season with a 3-9 record. Since being hired in 2011, Johnson compiled a 15-34 record.
"I want to thank CJ for his hard work and his dedication to rebuilding the Green Wave football program. His efforts were rewarded in 2013 when Tulane reached its first bowl in 11 years. Since then, however, the program has not progressed to the level that we aspire to," said Dickson.
The initial steps in recruiting Johnson's replacement will begin immediately. The process will be concluded as soon as possible after the naming of Dickson's replacement (Dickson announced earlier this year he would step down as Tulane AD in mid-2016.).
