No. 19 Bowling Heads to Crusader Classic

NEW ORLEANS – After an 18th-place finish at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree, Tulane bowling squad will get right back on the lanes this week as the Green Wave travel to Valparaiso, Ind., for the Crusader Classic, hosted by Valparaiso University, at Inman's Recreation Center from Nov. 6-8.
The bowling squad wrapped up their second tournament of the fall this past weekend, racking up an overall record of 5-7 against some of the nation's top teams. The Green Wave competed well among the 26-team field, and sophomore Michelle Ng lead the team with a 200.00 pin average.
No.19 Tulane will be competing amongst a 14-team field this weekend, including ranked opponents No. 25 Alabama State, No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 8 University of Central Missouri, No. 9 McKendree University, No. 23 Monmouth University, No. 1 University of Nebraska, No. 21 Prairie View A&M, No. 7 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, host No. 15 Valparaiso University, and No. 5 Vanderbilt University.
Alabama A&M, Aurora University, and Elmhurst University round out the tournament field.
"Although this will be another tough field, the ladies will bring the momentum from last weekend," commented Tulane bowling head coach Hayley Veitch. "It is never easy to go to back-to-back tournaments as there is little recovery and preparation time, but the ladies know what they need to do to stay competitive."
The tournament will begin on Friday with five sets of five total-pin Baker matches, starting at 10:05 AM CST. The teams will the play five traditional team games on Saturday, beginning at 9:00 AM CST.The tournament will conclude on Sunday with three rounds of best four-of-seven bracket play.
The All-Tournament team will consist of the top five individual players, based on pin average, who bowled at least four of the team games. The tournament MVP will be given to the bowler with the highest individual pin average who participated in all five team games.
Ng leads all Green Wave bowlers with a 198.44 pin average. Fellow sophomore Sarah Forton sits right behind her with a 196.30 average.
Tulane will have a week off following this tournament before they head to Millsboro, Del., for their final tournament of the fall campaign, the Hawk Classic.
