MTN Foursome Wrap Play at LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Tulane men's tennis foursome of Eric Wagner, Tyler Schick and the Van Cott brothers, Alex and Ian, once again competed together in a weekend tournament, this time sticking close to home at the LSU Invitational. The three-day event in Baton Rouge hosted players from Texas A&M, Princeton, Rice, Denver and Ole Miss as well.
Senior Alex Van Cott recorded the strongest showing with an undefeated 3-0 mark in singles action. After dropping his first set, 6-3, on Friday to Denver's Yannik James, Van Cott never dropped another set in singles for the remainder of the invitational, first storming back to defeat James, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Then, the senior rolled against Rice's Jamie Malik, 6-2, 6-3, and then Texas A&M's Max Lunkin, 6-3, 6-0.
Ian Van Cott also found singles success in Baton Rouge with a 2-1 performance, dispatching Princeton's Kial Kaiser in three sets followed by a straight-set win vs. Texas A&M's James Martell. Van Cott's lone loss came at the hands of No. 85 Tam Trinh of LSU, via the score, 6-3, 6-3.
The freshmen duo of Schick and Wagner each walked away with 1-2 records in singles. Schick knocked off Vinod Gowda of Ole Miss, 6-2, 6-1, while Wagner bested LSU's Cameron Andry, 6-4, 6-2.
"I was really pleased with how our guys competed from start to finish, trying to implement some new things in their game plans and staying focused throughout against tough competition," Tulane head coach Mark Booras stated.
