DELAND, Fla. - The 20th-ranked Tulane bowling team picked up seven wins and placed second in the bracket this past weekend at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Bethune-Cookman University at the Sunshine Bowling Center.
The Green Wave (44-36) won one Baker format match to open the event on Friday, but rebounded well and posted four wins on Saturday during the team games. Tulane then went 2-1 on Sunday in the bracket play to finish second behind Alabama State, who posted a perfect 13-0 record on the lanes.
"The ladies were able to bounce back well after a tough start on Friday," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "I'm very proud of the way they closed out the weekend and were able to win twice in bracket play to reach the championship game."
Tulane entered Sunday's bracket as the No. 4 seed based on total pins from the 10 games on Friday and Saturday. The Green Wave got past UAB, 4-2, in the best-of-seven Baker format to open Sunday and then defeated host Bethune-Cookman, 4-1, to advance to the championship game. ASU edged Tulane, 4-2, to claim the title.
Individually for Tulane, freshman Sarah Forton continued to roll well and recorded a 189.75 average in three games on Saturday. Sophomore Angela Falgoust also bowled well with a 184.6 average in five games.
The Green Wave will turn right around and travel to Houston for the SFA Jacks Invitational next weekend.
