Tulane Earns 7-0 Shutout vs USC Upstate

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team completed its winning weekend with a 7-0 sweep versus the visiting USC Upstate Spartans. The Green Wave's fourth shutout on the season bumped their overall record to 11-4.
"This was a great, complete team effort by our guys today," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Upstate pushed us in several spots throughout the singles lineup and our guys did a good job of maintaining the right competitive focus throughout to come out with a shutout."
The Wave recorded one of its most dominant outings in doubles as the squad earned 6-0 shutouts on both courts two and three. Thus, Alex and Ian Van Cott are now 6-1 in doubles on the year. Meanwhile, Dominik Koepfer's and Chi-Shan Jao's match on court one versus Rajanvir Dharni and Ramon Simonetti went unfinished at 3-3.
In singles, the Olive and Blue maintained its dominance, earning straight set victories on all six courts. The top-ranked Green Wave singles player, No. 14 Koepfer, earned his 10th dual win on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Simonetti. Alex Van Cott won his third straight, up 7-6(6), 5-4, when his opponent, Jamie Yates, retired.
Constantin Schmitz continued his stellar freshman campaign with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court two over Viktor Selander. It marked his ninth victory this year when his opponent managed only three games or less.
Furthermore, Sebastian Rey won 6-1, 6-4 on court four over Dharni while Chi-Shan Jao emerged with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Garrido on court five.
The most impressive outing of the day came on court six when Ian Van Cott rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Matt Bennion.
Up next, the Green Wave will head to Tampa for the USF Invitational. The three-day event starts March 13.
