NEW ORLEANS -- Tulane senior guard Jamie Kaplan has been no stranger to success both on and off the court, and this past Friday, the Melbourne, Florida native was honored once more, this time with the prestigious Tulane 34 Award. Kaplan was one of four Science and Engineering undergrads to be bestowed with the annual accolade.
The Tulane 34 Award is presented each year to 34 graduates who have distinguished themselves by their leadership in their curricular and co-curricular experience at Tulane. The award recognizes those who have excelled in academic achievement, student leadership and community service. Named for the year the University was founded, 1834, Tulane 34 is among the most coveted honors bestowed upon the student body.
Kaplan's senior season has been a fitting tribute to her academic success and her pursuit to better herself and the community off the court. Her first accolade came back in December when Kaplan was named a nominee for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Good Works Team, a distinction that recognizes student-athletes for their commitment to enriching the lives of others and the community.
Next, on March 6, Kaplan earned the prestigious American Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. The Melbourne, Florida, native, who has earned a 4.0 for three semesters in a row, became the first Green Wave to capture the major conference award.
Finally, on April 4, Kaplan was named a First-Team All-American for the Senior CLASS Award, a national distinction that honors those seniors who have displayed excellence in four areas: classroom, community, character and competition.
Kaplan boasts a 3.832 cumulative GPA and is on her way to earning a degree in Neuroscience this May.
