NEW ORLEANS -- This past weekend, TennisRecruiting.net updated its rankings for the 2015 recruiting class. Tulane women's tennis ranked in the top-five among NCAA Division-I mid-majors for the second straight year, a class that features two five-star products in Elena Muller and Sofia Kurtz.
Muller ranks 33rd in the 2015 class and was ranked as high as 24th back on April 29. The Dallas native ranks second in the state of Texas where she attended the Brookhaven Tennis Academy. Kurtz rounds out the class ranking 106th overall and 11th in the state of Georgia. Hailing from Atlanta, Kurtz is a recent grad of the Stephen Diaz Tennis Academy.
Muller and Kurtz will continue the trend of infusing promising young talent into the program after the 2014 class ranked No. 23 overall, marking Tulane head coach Terri Sisk's highest nationally ranked class in her seven years at the helm. In addition, this year's class also earned national recognition, receiving votes in the top-25 overall recruiting rankings.
"We had such a good season and now we have two really great players coming in next year," Sisk said. "It just makes me want to rush through the summer so we can start competing again. Sofia and Elena are going to come in here and give us a big boost."
This past spring, Tulane went 17-9, tying William and Mary for the biggest turnaround year out of any school ranked in the final top-75. Furthermore, the Wave earned a No. 2 seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament and achieved its second highest national ranking (No. 47) in the post-Katrina era.
"With those two additions, plus the core that I have now, I've told everyone that next year will be even better," Sisk concluded.
Rounding out the top-five ranked mid-majors were No. 4 South Alabama, No. 3 South Florida, No. 2 Florida International and No. 1 Pepperdine.
