SAN ANTONIO - Tulane women's swimmer Mia Schachter is set to compete at the Phillips 66 National Championships at Northside Swim Center Saturday morning. This is the third time Schachter has qualified for the US Swimming national summer event. She will be competing in the 100 breaststroke prelims during the morning session and finals will take place in the evening session.
"We are very proud to have Mia representing Tulane at the top swim meets this summer, it says a lot for her to be out here amongst the best swimmers in the country," said head coach Katie Robinson. "It means a lot for our program to have Tulane represented at these meets. I know that she has such high ambitions and goals in this sport, so this is great experience for her to swim at such a high level. She has already had a great summer in the pool, notching a lifetime best earlier this season, so we are looking to build off that momentum and carry it into her senior year at Tulane."
Schachter holds the school record in the featured event after notching a time of 1:00.49 at American Conference Championships earlier this year. She also boasts the school's top time in the 50 and 100 freestyle. An Arroyo Grande, California native, Schachter became just the second Tulane swimmer to qualify for NCAA Championships since the program was reinstated in 2003-04, when she did so this year. After helping her team to a fourth-place finish at conference championships, Schachter concluded her junior season competing in the 50 and 100 free, as well as the 100 breaststroke in which she earned a 32nd-place finish.
