Football Completes Final Full Practice for Memphis on Wednesday
Oct 12, 2016 | Football
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane football conducted its final full practice of the week on Wednesday under the morning sun shining down on Yulman Stadium.
"It was a good practice today. We cut back quite a bit and went about an hour and a half," said head coach Willie Fritz. "It's what you want to have happen. You want to introduce the game plan and try to refine it. Hopefully by two days out, they have a pretty good handle on it. Now it's going to be repeating than making corrections."
The game plan for Tulane (3-2, 0-1 American Athletic Conference | West) to stop Memphis (4-1, 1-0 American Athletic Conference | West) on offense may be keyed by its own offense. The Green Wave's triple-option ground attack continues to gain steam with 1,233 yards, ranked 16th in the nation. The 12 rushing touchdowns are shared between junior Dontrell Hilliard (5) and redshirt seniors Josh Rounds (4) and Lazedrick Thompson (3). Twice the season already, all three have scored a touchdown in the same game (Southern and UMass).
"One of the reasons I like this style of offense that we have is we line up in the same formations as the majority of the teams that we play," said Fritz "So our defense gets an opportunity to align with those different formations. That's one of the reasons I like this style of option football better than other types because I think it helps your defense out."
