Women’s Tennis Gears Up for ITA Southern Regional

ITA SOUTHERN REGIONAL DRAWS
NEW ORLEANS – Gearing up for their biggest tournament of the fall, the Tulane women's tennis team departed for Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Thursday morning in prep for the ITA Southern Regional, hosted by the Alabama Crimson Tide. The four day event gets underway on Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT and will feature a 64-player singles main draw, a 32-player B singles draw and a 32-team doubles main draw. Representing the Wave will be Christina Sisti, Naz Karagoz, Sade Atkinson, Elena Muller and Sofia Kurtz.
"The Southern Regional is a very tough region," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk explained. "It has a lot of the SEC schools in it and they've done really well in the past. The players hear me say this all the time, but it's not about the outcome, it's about the process. If we're doing all the little things right, the outcome is going to take care of itself."
Play on Friday morning will kick off with doubles as Sisti and Muller team up for the first time to take on Ole Miss' Khairudinova/Jandric. On the bottom half of the bracket, Karagoz and Atkinson pair up to challenge Louisiana Tech's Britos/Sramkova.
At approximately 10:15 a.m., Atkinson, Sisti, Muller and Karagoz will all begin their journey in the main singles draw. Atkinson battles Sramkova in the opening round while the freshman Sisti gets her first taste of the LSU-Tulane rivalry as she battles Skylar Holloway. On the lower half of the bracket, Muller challenges No. 9-16 seed Jandric while Karagoz looks to advance past Samford's Savannah Wood. Over in the B draw, Kurtz will commence singles action at 11:30 a.m. against Cameron Kriscunas of Ole Miss.
"We're just so excited to go play in this tournament and see the level we can compete at against top ranked schools," Sisk added. "Our goal is to go out there, work hard and stay under control."
