Men's Tennis' Constantin Schmitz Reaches ITA Southern Regional Final

AUBURN, Ala. – Tulane men's tennis junior Constantin Schmitz will play for a berth into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Monday morning after advancing to the singles final in Auburn at the ITA Southern Regional. Schmitz, who is ranked No. 66 in the country in singles, won five straight matches over the past three days, including today's ranked win over No. 34 Mazen Osama of Alabama.
Earlier this afternoon, Schmitz knocked off Osama, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. Up next, the Germany native will clash with No. 43 Nuno Borges of Mississippi State on Monday at 10 a.m. CT with the winner booking his ticket to New York's indoor championships in November.
Furthermore, it was almost an all-Green Wave semifinal on Sunday as senior Sebastian Rey fell 7-6, 7-6 to Osama in the quarters.
In other action, freshman Luis Erlenbusch won four straight over the weekend to reach the singles consolation final, defeating foes from Auburn, Nicholls State and Troy along the way. However, Eric Komati of UAB halted Erlenbusch's streak in the final, defeating the freshman, 6-2, 6-4.
