ITA ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL | QUALIFYING SINGLES DRAW | QUALIFYING DOUBLES DRAW | LIVE STREAMING
TULSA, Okla. – Over the past two days, three round of pre-qualifying were played at the ITA All-American Championships, as Chi-Shan Jao of Tulane men's tennis attempted to win three straight to advance to the qualifying round. Unfortunately for Jao, the senior came up one win short, winning two straight before falling in the Round of 32 to Peter Bertran of USF.
Previously, the No. 9 seeded Jao, defeated Scott Paz of EWU, 6-2, 6-2 and then Robert Herrera of ETSU, 7-6(3), 6-4, coming one win shy of qualifying, just like the year before. However, it was a conference rival in USF's Bertran that halted Jao's run, 7-5, 6-2.
However Jao's stay in Tulsa is not over just yet, as he will team will his fellow Green Wave partner Constantin Schmitz in the qualifying doubles round against North Florida's Jack Findel-Hawkins and Lasse Muscheites at 3 p.m. CT Monday. Together, the duo are ranked No. 30 in the preseason national poll.
Speaking of Schmitz, the Tulane sophomore is the No. 9 seed in the qualifying round. The Germany native will look to build some momentum in the first round when he squares off against Jolan Cailleau of Texas Tech at 8 a.m.
Lastly, senior Sebastian Rey will begin his trek in Tulsa against Texas A&M's Jordi Arconada in first round qualifying action at 10 a.m.
