Women's Tennis Wraps Play at Samford Round Robin
Oct 2, 2016 | Women's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tulane women's tennis foursome of Naz Karagoz, Elena Muller, Sofia Kurtz and Christina Sisti wrapped another successful fall tournament for the Green Wave this weekend, completing play at the Samford Round Robin Tournament. The Olive and Blue went 11-7 overall over the past three days, going 8-4 in singles and 3-3 in doubles play.
"This weekend was a great tournament for us in so many ways," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk stated. "Traveling with a smaller group allows me to really focus on the girls individually so it was great to be able to really identify any weaknesses and work on it at that time. We didn't have the best start to the tournament but really turned it around on the second day with a perfect record after discussing some things that were holding us back in our preparation."
Sisti went a perfect 3-0 in singles action, cruising in flight three against opponents from Samford, Southern Miss and UAB. Sisti won all three of her matches via straight-sets, only dropping a combined six games in the process. In addition, Sisti and Kurtz wrapped a successful doubles weekend, posting a 2-1 record.
Karagoz, in flight one, and Muller, in flight two, also posted winning singles records on the weekend with 2-1 marks. This marked Muller's 2016-17 debut while Karagoz improved to 3-3 overall this fall.
"It was great to see Elena really turn it around on the last two days after not having any match play since July," Sisk added. "Christina was really down on herself after losing in the finals last weekend in Houston but really showed what she is like when focused and brought home a championship today. Sofia struggled her first day but really found her game on the second day and played very solid tennis so I'm happy to see her confidence return. Naz had a great tournament. She made it to the finals and even though she lost in three sets, she played under control and exhibited true growth under pressure which will definitely pay dividends down the road."
