NEW ORLEANS - Tulane football looks to play the role of spoiler this weekend when they travel to Tulsa, who is hosting their Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 22. The contest between the two American Athletic Conference West Division rivals will air live on ESPNU at 2:45 p.m. CT.
Storylines:
• The Green Wave (3-3, 0-2 American Athletic Conference | West) are serving as a homecoming opponent for the second time this season. The first time, Tulane played spoiler defeating UMass 31-24.
• Tulane is seeking its fourth conference win since joining The American and its first on the road since a 31-24 victory at Houston on Nov. 8. 2014.
• Tulane and Tulsa (4-2. 1-1 The American | West) met in both teams' first game as members of the American Athletic Conference. That game was one proved to be a thriller as the Golden Hurricane snagged a 38-31 victory in double overtime at home on Aug. 28, 2014.
• The last time the Green Wave boasted a winning record in conference play was during the 2013 season with a 5-3 mark in the school's final season in Conference USA.
• Defense remains the mainstay this season as the Olive and Blue leads The American and ranks tied for fourth in the nation in turnover margin (+8, 1.33 per game).
• Tulane is ranked third in The American and 20th in the nation in total defense (324.0 yards per game).
• On the offensive side of the ball, the Green Wave have had 13 different players attempt a rush and nine different players catch a pass through six games.
• Tulane is averaging 4.6 yards per rush and 12.7 yards per pass completion.
• The triple-option ground attack has been foundation of the offense. The Wave enter the week ranked 22nd in the nation in rushing offense at 233.7 yards per game.
• Tulane has passed for more than 130 yards in four of its six games so far, including the last three in a row.
• All six of the Wave's passing touchdowns have come in the last three games with four coming in the thrilling, four-overtime victory over UL Lafayette.Â
Series Notes:
• Saturday's game marks the 13th meeting between Tulane and Tulsa. Both schools are private universities with Tulsa having the smallest enrollment (3,473) among all NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision schools.
• The Golden Hurricane have won all five games in the all-time series played in Tulsa, Okla.
• Outside of the victory in the first game in the all-time series, the Green Wave's only other win over Tulsa was a 14-7 win on Oct. 26, 2013 in New Orleans.
Scouting the Golden Hurricane:
• Tulsa (4-2, 1-1 The American | West) is coming off a 38-31 loss at Houston on Oct. 15.
• Tulsa trailed by 14 twice against Houston, 17-3 and 31-17, and both times came back to tie the game. Trailing 38-31, Tulsa took possession with 1:21 remaining, and traveled to the one-yard line, but failed to reach the end zone on 2nd-and-goal from the two-yard line.
• Senior quarterback Dane Evans threw for a season-high 365 yards at Houston to move into second place on the school's career passing chart with 9,832 yards.
Tulane vs The American:
• Saturday's game at Tulsa marks the school's 19th game in football as a member of the American Athletic Conference. The Green Wave hold a 3-15 record for their first two-plus seasons in the conference.
• Tulane's last victory over a conference opponent was a 45-31 win over UCF on Oct. 3, 2015.
