Men's Tennis' Constantin Schmitz Named American Player of the Month

Junior collected a pair of ranked victories in September
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's tennis junior Constantin Schmitz earned the first American Athletic Conference honor of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday afternoon, after the Germany native earned the player of the month accolade for his September play. Last month, Schmitz went 2-1 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles, collecting a pair of top-60 ranked singles wins. The award marks Schmitz's second career conference honor.
Competing in the Crimson Tide Four-In-The Fall tournament, Schmitz bested both No. 34 Mazen Osama of Alabama and fellow conference foe No. 52 Andrew Watson of Memphis, with the latter decided in a swift 6-1, 6-2, fashion. Furthermore, in doubles, No. 30 Schmitz and Chi-Shan Jao pulled out an 8-7(5) victory over Columbia's Victor Pham and Jackie Tang.
Up next, Schmitz and the rest of the Green Wave will head to Auburn, Alabama, to compete in the ITA Southern Regionals, Oct. 14-17.
