Women’s Basketball Head Coach Lisa Stockton Signs Contract Extension
Oct 6, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Will remain in New Orleans through 2020-21 season
NEW ORLEANS – Lisa Stockton and Tulane women's basketball have essentially gone hand-in-hand, as the head coach begins her 23rd year at the helm of the program, boasting a 461-227 (.670) record with the Green Wave. Stockton's tremendous success hasn't gone unnoticed as Tulane Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair Troy Dannen has just signed the head coach to a contract extension, taking her through the 2020-21 season.
"We are thrilled to announce this extension to Lisa's contract," Dannen said. "Her program has a long standing record of not only on-court success, but also a record of developing outstanding young women who have moved on to successful careers. She stands as a great example for our department, our campus, and our community of the impact successful leadership can have."
Stockton has led the Green Wave to 17 trips to the postseason, including 11 appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Most recently, the Wave have accomplished seven straight 20+ win seasons, and in their first two seasons in The American, booked a ticket to the NCAA Tournament and tied the program's longest run in the WNIT (third round).
More impressively is the fact that every four-year student-athlete under Stockton has completed their degrees under her watch. In fact, just in the past few months alone, the program has recognized Janell Burse (named deputy commissioner for the Women's Minor League Basketball Association) and Shelly Cayette (Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Cleveland Cavaliers) for their recent career achievements.
"I am very grateful to President Fitts and Troy Dannen for their support," Stockton stated. "This is an exciting time for Tulane athletics. With our increased support and upgraded facilities, along with the national exposure from the American Athletic Conference, we have a great opportunity to take our women's basketball program to new heights."
Coach Stockton and the Green Wave kick off their 2016-17 season inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Nov. 12 against Grambling at 2 p.m. CT. For season tickets, please visit www.TulaneGreenWave.com or call 504-861-WAVE (9283).
