Junior earns first conference honor of her career
NEW ORLEANS – Just a few days after wrapping a successful 'business trip' weekend which saw Tulane women's tennis standout Sade Atkinson take home both a singles and doubles title, the American Athletic Conference came calling by presenting the Green Wave junior with The American Player of the Month Award. The accolade marks Atkinson's first career conference honor.
"This is a tremendous honor for Sade," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "She is really working hard and being very disciplined in all areas of her life that deal with tennis. Sade is extremely talented and only needed to make a few adjustments in her approach to tennis, in which she has made the last six months. It's really quite fun to watch her excel now. She is very deserving of this huge honor. I expect more to come."
Atkinson wrapped a stellar October in which she went 5-1 in singles and 4-1 in doubles competition. First, Atkinson produced her longest run at ITA Southern Regionals, reaching the Round of 16, knocking off No. 51 Natalie Suk of Ole Miss along the way. The victory marked the first ranked win of her three-year career. Next, Atkinson completed a 6-0 combined singles and doubles weekend at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama, where she claimed both the singles and doubles titles of her respective draws.
Finally, Atkinson is now tied with freshman Christina Sisti for the most singles wins on the team with eight this fall.
