NEW ORLEANS - Tulane swimming & diving will return to Houston, TX on Friday, Nov. 18 - Sunday, Nov. 20 to compete in the Phill Hansel Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston. The Green Wave will compete against nine programs, including Houston, Idaho, North Texas, Rice, New Mexico State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Vanderbilt and UC Davis.Â
"Our women are very excited for this meet and we're thrilled to show off what we've practiced so hard for," head coach Katie Robinson said. "As a team, we're going to be challenged because the competition includes some of the best teams in the nation. Last year, we finished in second place overall at this event, and, though there have been some really talented teams added to this year's meet, I think that we're going to do really well as a team this weekend."
Last season, the Invitational proved fruitful for the Green Wave swimmers, who swam to a second place finish with a score of 879 and added a handful school records to their achievements. Tulane notched five school records – three of which were set by sophomores Lena Hayakawa (200 breast), Shelly Zelnick (200 IM) and Natalie Clausen (1650 free) – two NCAA B-Cut times, twenty top-10 finishes and over thirty lifetime bests.
This season, the three day Invitational begins Friday, with the Prelims starting at 10:00 AM CT and the Finals at 6:00 PM CT. Friday's events include the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and the 400 medley relay. On Saturday,  Prelims will again commence at 10:00 AM CT and the Finals at 6:00 PM CT. Saturday's schedule consists of seven events: 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay. On the final day of competition, Prelims begin at 10:00 AM CT, while the Finals start at 5:00 PM CT. Day three's events include the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay. The one meter and three meter dive will also occur across Friday and Saturday.Â
"The meet is a good rehearsal for what the American Athletic Conference Championship will be like," Robinson said. "We have done well in the past with this event lineup and just a couple days rest, so we look forward to continuing to do very well at this meet."
Tulane is back in action for the first time since its dual meet against SMU at SMU, Nov. 4, where the team lost 173-114, but recorded four first place finishes and set numerous program records. Sophomore Anise Muir and freshman Morgan Tacik  provided strong performances in the one meter dive and 1000 free, respectively, to lead the Green Wave. Muir recorded a top score of 236.70 in the one meter dive, which ranks fifth best in program history, while Tacik won the 1000 free (10:17.71), which ranks sixth in the record book.
Robinson believes that the team is prepared to carry over its success and continue to make waves in the record book."From an individual standpoint, we want to see our swimmers finish near their best times," Robinson said. "In the past, we've had swimmers notch personal records at this event, and that would be really great to see at this point in the season. I know they're ready for that, and I'm looking forward to watching that happen.
