NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane football team (3-8, 0-7 The American | West) will look to end its 2016 campaign on a high note on Saturday when they make the trek to Storrs, Connecticut to challenge UConn (3-8, 1-6 The American | East) on Saturday, Nov. 26. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. CT on ESPNews and WATCHESPN.Â
STORYLINES:
• The Green Wave are playing at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field for the first time in program history.
• This matchup is Tulane's only game thisseason to be played on a natural grass surface.
• The last time the Green Wave won their regular-season finale was a 28-18 win over East Carolina on Nov. 22, 2003. The last time a win came in a road regular-season finale was a 44-10 win at Houston on Nov. 22, 1997.
SERIES NOTES:
• Saturday's game marks the third meeting between Tulane and UConn with the series tied at 1-1.
• Both previous meetings have been at Yulman Stadium with the Green Wave winning the first one 12-3 on Oct. 11, 2014 and the Huskies returning the favor with a 7-3 win on Nov. 7, 2015.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES:
• UConn (3-8, 1-6 The American | East) is coming off a 30-0 loss at Boston College on Nov. 19.
• Freshman quarterback Donovan Williams started his second career game in the loss to the Eagles and was 13-for-29 passing for 127 yards.
• Senior wide receiver Noel Thomas' 91 caches top the school's single-season reception list, breaking the previous mark of 88 by Mark Didio in 1991.
• UConn's conference win this season came on a 20-9 home victory over Cincinnati on Oct. 8.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE:
• The anchor of Tulane's defensive unit is senior defensive tackle Tanzel Smart. He has been a constant for the Green Wave, having started on the defensive front in 35 straight games.
• Smart rarely comes off the field on defense and contributes on special teams as well. In the UL Lafayette game, Smart played 105 snaps on defense and special teams in the four-overtime thriller.
• Smart has been extended an invitation to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl on Jan. 28, 2017.
SECOND LINE OF DEFENSE:
• The heart of soul of the Tulane defense for four seasons has been senior linebacker Nico Marley. He has started in 47 of the 48 games he has played in and posted consecutive starts in 36 straight games.
• Marley enters his final game wearing the Olive Blue just 0.5 tackle for loss behind the school's all-time leader, Kenan Blackmon, who had 50.0 tackles for loss from 1999-2002. Marley has 49.5 tackles for loss to his credit.
