NEW ORLEANS - In their ninth game of the regular season, Tulane football heads to Orlando for their make-up game against UCF. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. CT live on ESPN3 and the Green Wave's seven-station radio network flagshipped by Fox Sports AM 1280 New Orleans.Â
Storylines:
• Tulane (3-5, 0-4 American Athletic Conference | West) is seeking to stop a threegame skid as the schedule turns to the final month of the regular season.
• The Green Wave face UCF (4-4, 2-2 The American | East) to start a final stretch where three of the team's last four regular-season games are on the road.
• Three of Tulane's five losses have been by seven points of less with the Wave being in four of those games in the fourth quarter.
• The Olive and Blue have scored 30 or more points in four of their eight games so far, with only one of them not resulting in a victory - the 35-31 setback to SMU on homecoming.
• Head coach Willie Fritz is looking for his first conference win at Tulane. He was 14-2 in conference play in the Sun Belt with Georgia Southern.
• Fritz is just four wins away from reaching 200 for his coaching career. Of his 196 wins, 60 have come on the NCAA Division I level (FBS and FCS).
• The defense remains the calling card for the Green Wave through eight games. In addition to being tied for second in the nation in fumble recoveries with 11, Tulane enters the week ranked tied for fourth in the nation in turnover margin (+10, 1.25 per game).
• The Green Wave's defense is ranked fourth in The American and 37th in the nation in total defense (378.6 yards per game).
• The trio of senior nickelback Richard Allen, redshirt junior defensive end Ade Aruna and redshirt sophomore defensive end Peter Woullard are tied for ninth in the nation in fumble recoveries with two each.
• Offensively, Tulane has rushed for 240 or more yards as a team four times so far this season - 437 vs. Southern, 240 vs. Navy, 280 at UMass and 355 at Tulsa.
• The Green Wave's triple-option ground attack features the running back trio of junior Dontrell Hilliard (640 yards, 8 TDs) and redshirt seniors Josh Rounds (523 yards, 5 TDs) and Lazedrick Thompson (296 yards, 4 TDs).
Series Notes:
• Saturday's game marks the eighth meeting between Tulane and UCF with the Knights leading the series 5-2. Tulane is 0-3 in games in this series played in Orlando.
• The Green Wave won the last year's meeting, 45-31 on Oct. 3, 2015, to end the Knights' three-game winning streak in the series.
Scouting the Knights:
• UCF (4-4, 2-2 The American | East) is coming off a 31-24 loss at then RV/24 Houston on Oct. 29.
• The Knights forced three turnovers in the first half en route to a 21-3 halftime lead at Houston, but four turnovers led to a 28-point second half for the Cougars and the seven-point victory.
• UCF has nine interceptions on the season so far, which more than doubles the team's total of four from 2015.
• Junior outside linebacker Shaquem Griffin recorded a career-high and game-high 14 tackles, including 12 solo stops at Houston Griffin, who is ranked 19th nationally in sacks per game, added 2.5 more vs. the Cougars. Griffin, who has only one hand due to a birth defect, also snared his first collegiate interception and recovered a fumble against the Cougars.
