Men's Tennis' Schmitz Qualifies for Main Draw at Niceville Futures

NICEVILLE, Fla. – For the second straight year, Tulane men's tennis junior Constantin Schmitz played his way out of the qualifying draw to advance to the main draw of the Niceville Futures Tournament. Schmitz, who was the No. 7 seed in qualifying, won three straight, including Monday's 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, victory over Isaiah Strode, to book his ticket into the Round of 32 main draw.
Just a year ago, Schmitz reached the second round of the main draw in Niceville, knocking off the No. 354 ranked player in the world to earn his first career ATP point. Now, Schmitz will look to do the same and then some when he battles Andrew Carter in the first round on Tuesday.
Sebastian Rey and Luis Erlenbusch almost joined Schmitz in the main draw on Monday, each falling one victory shy. Rey, who bested fellow Green Wave teammate Tyler Schick to reach the fourth and final round of qualifying, dropped a tough 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 match against Alexandre Rotsaert, while Erlenbusch fell 6-3, 7-5 to Dusty H. Boyer.
